Parent PIN

A parent PIN keeps children out of the grown-up pages on a shared device: Organisation and everything under it (such as Children and Members), Messages, your Account and Profile. Before one of those opens, Grown-ups only asks for your PIN.

The Learning page, a child’s own page, the workbooks and My Profile never ask for it.

Set a parent PIN

  1. Choose Main menu, then Account.
  2. Under Parent PIN, type 4 to 6 numbers your children don’t know, then type them again.
  3. Select Set PIN.

Unlock the grown-up pages

  1. Open a grown-up page. Grown-ups only opens.
  2. Type your PIN and select Unlock.

They stay open in that browser for 10 minutes. They lock again as soon as anyone opens the Learning page, so handing the device back to a child locks them.

After 5 wrong tries, no PIN is accepted for 15 minutes.

Change or remove your PIN

  1. On your Account page, under Parent PIN, type your current PIN.
  2. Type a new PIN twice and select Change PIN, or select Remove PIN.

If you forget your PIN

  1. Open a grown-up page. Grown-ups only opens.
  2. Under Forgot your PIN?, select Email Me a Code. A code goes to your email address.
  3. Type the code, then a new PIN twice.
  4. Select Set New PIN. The page you were going to opens.

The code lasts 10 minutes and works once. After 3 wrong tries, ask for a new one.

Signing out and in again doesn’t get past the PIN. On a family device a child might be able to sign in as you, so only a code from your email will do.

Who can do this

Everyone sets their own PIN. It’s asked for whoever is signed in on that browser.

If something goes wrong

“That isn’t your PIN.” The PIN doesn’t match. The message says how many tries are left.

“Too many wrong tries.” Wait until the time shown, or use Forgot your PIN? to set a new one.

“That code isn’t right.” Check the code in the email and type it again.

“That code has expired or been tried too many times.” Select Email Me Another Code.

“The two PINs aren’t the same. Type it again.” The second PIN doesn’t match the first.
