Subjects for your child
A subject is a list of topics and sub-topics for one year, such as Year 6 Maths. You give each child their subjects for a school year. They then write study notes in them.
To open a child’s subjects, go to Children, open the child, then select Subjects.
Add a subject
- Select Add Subject.
- Under School year, choose the year. From 1 October, next year is chosen first.
- Under List, choose a list.
- Select Add.
The subject shows under its school year. Your child sees it on their page in that year.
Import a list
Lists come from the library, or from a file you import. A list you import belongs to your home, and you can give it to any of your children.
- On Add Subject, select Import a List.
- Under Upload the list file, choose a
.jsonfile, or paste it under Paste the list file. - Check what it found: the title, the subject, the year and how many topics and sub-topics it has.
- Select Save.
You’re back on Add Subject, with the new list under List.
A list file is JSON, like this:
{
"format": "rocket-learners-subject-list",
"version": 1,
"subject": "Maths",
"yearLevel": 6,
"title": "Year 6 Maths",
"source": "Where the list came from",
"topics": [
{ "code": "A", "name": "Place value and number sense",
"subtopics": [{ "code": "A.1", "name": "Place values" }] }
]
}
yearLevel is the year the list is written for, from 1 to 13. title, source and the codes are optional. A list can have up to 200 topics and 2,000 sub-topics.
Read your child’s notes
- Select View beside a subject.
- Select a topic, then a sub-topic, to read its notes.
The working and answers are hidden until you select Show Working or Show Answer.
Remove a subject
- Select Remove beside the subject.
- Select Remove to confirm.
The subject and all its study notes are deleted.
Who can do this
Parents and guardians of the home (its admins).
If something goes wrong
“This isn’t JSON. Check the file, or copy it again.” The file isn’t JSON. Check you chose the right file, or copy all of it again.
“This isn’t a subject list file.”
The file is JSON, but not a subject list. It needs "format": "rocket-learners-subject-list".
A line such as topics[3].subtopics[2]: name is missing names the part of the file to fix. Fix it, then paste or upload the file again.
Name already has this list for that year. Choose another list or another school year.
